The hostelry is the best starting place to explore by foot the small charming town of Portopalo. Just in front of it, there spread the whole sea-front promenade (lungomare) which invites to make a little promenade to look how the fishing boats come and go. A short walk will take you to the ruins of the old ‘Tonnara’ (tuna fishery) which will bear witness to more than just anecdotal evidence of the history of this town. Directly in front of the hotel lies Isola di Capo Passero, often visible and accessible on foot during low tide, when the water recedes along a narrow tongue-shaped sandbar leading of ways amidst an old Spanish fort.

The main town center is right behind the hotel. Just around the corner is Piazza Terrazza dei Due Mari, the main square where people gather at night. The streets around have a couple of small shops, bakeries, and cafes to take an espresso in the morning or a fresh ‘cannolo’. You will find all daily facilities such as a tiny supermarket (alimentari) and pharmacy within 5-10 minutes’ walking distance.

For beach bums, you can enjoy the use of the private lido of the hotel and just take a 15-20-minute walk to Isola delle Correnti, that real southernmost tip of Sicily where the Ionian and Mediterranean meet. Walking to it follows the shore and is picturesque all the way down to a long sandy beach that is well-liked by locals and windsurfers.
